The <a href=\"https:\/\/al-anon.org\/pdf\/2021-MembershipSurvey.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2024 Al-Anon membership<\/a> survey shows that of the 10,848 members who reported receiving treatment prior to attending Al-Anon, 41 percent were referred to the program by a professional. No advance notification or written referral is necessary\u00a0to attend an Al-Anon or Alateen meeting. Anyone affected by someone else\u2019s drinking is welcome to attend. There are no dues or fees for membership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>View the Al-Anon of Massachusetts <a href=\"https:\/\/alanon.mystaging.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Outreach_Professionals_Flyer_Interactive.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Outreach to Professionals flyer<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Al-Anon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is for families and friends of alcoholics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is a separate fellowship from Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Al-Anon is based on the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions adapted from AA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is compatible with professional treatment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Alateen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is part of the Al-Anon fellowship designed for the younger relatives and friends of alcoholics through age 19<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Members conduct their own meetings with the guidance of an Al-Anon members who are Alateen group sponsors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follows the same Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and Twelve Concepts as Al-Anon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al-Anon and Alateen groups and members do not:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Give advice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Indulge in gossip or criticism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discuss members\u2019 religious beliefs, or lack of them<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Endorse or oppose any cause, therapy, or treatment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al-Anon\/Alateen members are helped when they:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Attend meetings on a regular basis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make telephone contact with other members<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read Al-Anon\/Alateen literature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have another Al-Anon\/Alateen member as a sponsor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply the Twelve Steps of recovery to their lives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Become involved in Al-Anon\/Alateen service work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Visit a meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professionals may attend \u201copen\u201d Al-Anon meetings. An open Al-Anon meeting welcomes members and prospective members and allows attendance by people who are not families and friends of alcoholics but who are interested in learning about Al-Anon Family Groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone is welcome to visit an &#8220;open&#8221; meeting. This will be designated as &#8220;Families, Friends, &amp; Observers Welcome&#8221; on the <a href=\"\/meetings\">meetings<\/a> page of the Al-Anon MA website. Closed meetings are limited to members and prospective members, giving them the freedom to share and listen to the experience, strength, and hope of one another on a confidential and anonymous basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Anonymity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al-Anon is an anonymous fellowship. This means that anyone attending a meeting is asked to keep confidential the identities of individuals seen and everything shared in the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We always protect our members\u2019 anonymity, but the Al-Anon and Alateen program is not anonymous. We encourage the spreading of information about the availability of Al-Anon and Alateen meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Resources<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To speak to someone about Al-Anon in Massachusetts, contact the office Monday\u2013Friday, 9:00\u20134:00.
